Ivanna Seymour became first Bahamian captain of Utopia of the Seas
The 32-year-old Ivanna Seymour of Bahamas became the first Bahamian captain of the 2nd largest cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship, the Utopia of the Seas.

Bahamas: The 32-year-old Ivanna Seymour of Bahamas became the first Bahamian captain of the 2nd largest cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship, the Utopia of the Seas.
The brand-new massive Utopia of the Seas has the capacity of holding 8000 passengers and crew and will set sail for the first time on 19th July 2024. The Utopia of the Seas will be arriving in Nassau, Bahamas on Sunday, July 21st, 2024 from Port Canaveral in Florida which will be operated by first female Bahamian Officer, Ivanna Seymour.
Her selection as an officer has been appreciated by several citizens as well as the authorities of Bahamas. They have stated it is her hard work and dedication which has played a huge role in helping her earn this prestigious position at a very young age.
Moreover, the Prime Minister of Bahamas, Philip Brave Davis congratulated her and stated that Ivanna’s journey from a mailboat crew to the helm of a cruise ship shows the world that Bahamians and Caribbean girls can excel in any thing and elevate to greater heights. Also, her achievement is a testament to her commitment towards serving as an inspiration to all the girls who want to achieve greater heights in life.
“We are incredibly proud of you, Ivanna. Keep inspiring us all,” noted PM Davis.
Ivanna Seymour has always been a very passionate woman who has experienced Second Officer holding a Chief Officer Unlimited license with a demonstrated history of working in the maritime industry. Along with that, she is also skilled in Maritime Operations, Maritime Security, ISM Code, Marine Operations, and International Shipping.
She has studied Nautical Science at South Tyneside College and after that rendered her services as a former deck cadet at Campbell Shipping Company Ltd, she has also performed her duties as a former third officer and also a former second officer at Campbell Shipping Company Ltd. She has also been the second officer at Royal Caribbean International and now the first officer.
Following her selection Nassau Cruise Port Ltd. also extended congratulations to Ivanna and stated that they have watched her steer her way through the seas from second officer to first officer with Royal Caribbean Group. While expressing delight, they noted that it is always a pleasure to see Bahamians, especially the women sail the seas they boast about.
