Guyanese President Ali presides second meeting of LCDS at the Office of President

Guyana: President Irfaan Ali presided over the second meeting of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) Multi-Stakeholder Steering Committee (MSSC), at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, on March 28, 2022 (Monday).
The MSSC, chaired by the Head of State, is working to finalize the draft LCDS 2030.
As per the government, the role of the Committee would be to guide and strategize the direction for the consultation and implementation of LCDS 2030. The Development Strategy will also contribute toward the establishment of a new low-carbon economy in the country.
“The role of the MSSC relates to overall guidance and strategic direction for consultations on the LCDS 2030 and implementation.
LCDS 2030 would create a new low-carbon economy in Guyana by establishing incentives that value the world’s ecosystem services and promoting these as an essential component of a new global development model with sustainability at its core,” the Guyanese government stated.
The Committee is comprised of a cross-section of representatives, including the Guyanese Organisation of Indigenous Peoples, the Amerindian People’s Association, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana, and the Private Sector Commission, among others.
Senior Finance Minister in Office of the President – Dr Ashni Singh; Minister of Amerindian Affairs – Pauline Sukhai, and Minister of Natural Resources – Vickram Bharrat, were present during the meeting.
The government further informed that the first MSSC meeting was held on February 14, 2022.
