Guyana upgrades $500 and $1000 currency notes

As per the reports, these notes were upgraded by the Bank of Guyana on 29th July, and they have kept most of the elements of the previous note but with one significant change to the front of the notes.

Guyana upgrades $500 and $1000 currency notes

Georgetown, Guyana: The Bank of Guyana upgraded its $500 and $1000 currency notes. These new banknotes are reported to be circulated alongside the existing notes of the same denominations.

As per the reports, these notes were upgraded by the Bank of Guyana on 29th July, and they have kept most of the elements of the previous note but with one significant change to the front of the notes.

In the $500 note, the authorities have replaced the front of the note with a Holographic Stripe and a Rolling Star® Lead Pure security foil. This 10mm wide micro mirror features a Macaw and shifts from magenta to green when tilted.

Meanwhile, in the $1000 note, the authorities have replaced the RAPID® micro-optic security feature with RAPID® Vision. This 6mm wide, brown/ green Vision feature displays a Jaguar with a pulse effect and alternating movement when tilted.

While shedding light on upgrading notes, the authorities stated that this decision has been taken in order to be in line with best practices and to combat counterfeiting and to stay abreast of technological advancements.

This is not the first time that Guyana has made changes to their notes or have upgraded it, initially also in 2022, the Bank of Guyana upgraded $5000 currency notes. The notes were upgraded as a part of their commitment to the continuous development and enhancement of the Guyana currency notes.

At that time, the authorities also kept most of the elements of the previous one with significant changes to their front and back. At that time, the authorities removed the DualTrack TM thread from the back of the note and also the Holographic Stripe at the front of the note. On the other hand, they added a 5mm wide Pulsar TM colour shifting thread at the front of the note. The colour on the thread was shifted in a dynamic movement from gold to green.

The third change made in the currency note was featuring a SPARK® Live Truspin around a Jaguar at the front of note and a double circle surrounding the moves.

Moreover, the Bank of Guyana was awarded “Best New Banknote” for their upgraded $5000 bill. During that win, the Governor General of Bank of Guyana, Gobin Ganga stated that their victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of their entire time in designing and upgrading note.

He also acknowledged their efforts and stated that they have used the best technological methods in order to ensure they have a note that stands out and is difficult to counterfeit. With the same approach, the authorities stated that they have upgraded $500 and $1000 currency notes.
