Guyana: School security guard arrested for stealing solar panels worth $260,000

Georgetown, Guyana: The authorities of Guyana arrested a security guard in connection to stolen Merisolar solar panels worth GC $260,000 at Two Miles Primary School in Regional Division #7. The incident of the stealing was recorded from 19th April and 22nd April 2024.

The suspect has been identified as a 27-year-old security officer, resident of Two Miles Bartica. As per the details shared by the officers, the school was undergoing repairs when they replaced the solar panels and stored the old ones under the school stairway. 

According to the reports, the Manager of the school canteen, Melanie Gardener was cleaning the stairway and observed that four panels were missing. Subsequently, the matter about the missing panels was reported to the police by the Head Teachers of Two Miles Primary School. 

As soon as the officers received the news, they immediately acted on it by collecting the information and approached the security guard who admitted the theft. Moreover, the officers also contacted a Bartica businessman who was also involved in the matter. 

The businessman took the ranks to a vehicle, where they found two panels and the other two were found from the roof of the building. Therefore, the officers arrested both the suspect and the businessman and placed them in custody. 

Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their opinions and views on the incident. One person commented “Yes good work by the Police officers, great part from their side, these people are robbing every item. I don’t get what has happened to the citizens of the nation.”

Another person commented the following “Authorities have conducted good from their side, it is good that the guilty is arrested.”

The residents of Guyana have praised the officers for their swift actions and have urged them to take serious measures in order to stop such activities in the nation. The administration has also promised to bring peace and prosperity to the nation by tackling crime activities.
