Christmas Awards ceremony conducted by Regional Police Division #2 at its Regional Headquarters in Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, Guyana.

Notably, a total of 114 people were recognised with the award by the Police officials of Division 2 for their tiring dedication and exemplary contribution to their police services during the past year.

Moreover, the officers were awarded for performing their duties diligently and working towards eradicating the crime rates, which includes Seizure of firearms and narcotics, community engagements, traffic duties, performance in the courts, serving many communities both on the coast and riverine areas, investigation performance in the courts and the areas of wanted persons.

Plaques and certificates were given to business people, members of Station Management Committees, Members of the Regional Cops and Faith Network, Community Policing Groups (CPGs) and other stakeholders for their continuous support to the Police in Regional Division #2.

It is to be noted the award for the region’s best cop was given to Inspector R. Chatergoon, the regional court superintendent. R. Chatergoon was awarded a trophy and $50,000 cash for supervising, prosecuting summaries and indictable matters. He is credited with 100 convictions, which cumulatively make up 22 years of imprisonment in total.

The award of runner-up was given to Sergeant Benjamin who performed exceptionally well and was awarded a trophy and $30,000 cash. Sergeant Benjamin is the subordinate officer in charge of Anna Regina Police Station.

While addressing everyone, Regional Commander Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran thanked the ranked officers for their hard work, tiring dedication and sterling contribution to providing quality services to residents of the Essequibo Coast, Guyana. Devin Mohan, the Mayor of Anna Region graced the event by showing his presence.

Furthermore, the people of Guyana reacted to the news and congratulated the winners of these special awards.

The President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali extended his best wishes for Christmas through his Facebook account. He added that at this time, he wants to remember all the brave men and women in uniform, as well as all those who are patrolling the borders of Guyana. He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the sacrifices of those in uniform who are trying hard to maintain peace and security in the nation.
