Guyana receives another donation of Pzifer doses from US

Guyana has once again received another shipment of 42,120 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine via the COVAX facility on December 6, 2021. 

This donation was made by the government of the United States via COVAX in order to assist the Caribbean island in strengthening its COVID-19 response. 

The Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony, United States Ambassador, Sarah-Ann Lynch and other high-rank officials were also present at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, on Monday afternoon to receive the third shipment of the Pzifer COVID vaccines. 

While handing over the donation to the Guyanese officials, the Ambassador informed that with the arrival of this shipment, the total number of COVID vaccines provided by the COVAX facility to the Caribbean island has risen to 300,000. 

A few days back, while encouraging the general public to take their jabs of the COVID-19 vaccines, President Dr Irfaan Ali noted that the government is having enough stock of vaccines to inoculate its population. 

“Our only means to be – ahead of all these COVID-19 variants, all the changes, the mutations which we are seeing is vaccination. If it is that this Omicron variant is far more infectious, – the only thing that will save us is vaccination. The only thing which would slow the hospitalisation is vaccination. The only thing which would slow the death rate successfully is vaccination,” he outlined earlier. 

As per the recent data, to date, the island has partially vaccinated (those who have received their first dose of the vaccine) 51.1 percent of its population, while on the other hand, around 35.7 percent of the individuals in Guyana has received their required number of the COVID-19 vaccine jabs and are now fully inoculated against the deadliest mutant. 

The data further reveals that more than 683,000 COVID vaccines doses have been administered on the island.
