Guyana: Dr Irfaan Ali told residents of Port Kaituma, Region One (Barima-Waini), that his Government will invest heavily in healthcare in the region to ensure that residents receive world-class service.
This, the President said, will be done through the upgrading and building of new health facilities.
President Ali made the remarks at a community meeting as part of his two-day regional outreach.
He emphasised that the Government’s overall programme is people-centred and structured to work with citizens and communities to identify their priorities for development.
“I am glad to be here to share a few words with you, but more importantly, to listen to you and your concerns, some of your ideas and for us to work together in resolving some of the challenges you have and seeing how we as a Government can respond to some of the priorities as you see it as the people of this region,” President outlined.
President Ali also spoke extensively about the Government’s ongoing development agenda in healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, education, energy and other sectors.
Several Ministers of the Government are also a part of the outreach.
President Irfaan Ali also reaffirmed his Government’s belief that the strongest pillar of democracy lies with the people.
While interacting with residents of Mabaruma and other communities within the Mabaruma Sub-Region during a community outreach exercise earlier today, he said that Guyanese voices and concerns drive the Government to “work harder”.
“In this Government, you can be assured of us, from the President, the Cabinet and everyone, working harder every day to improve your lives,” he stated.
Following brief presentations by members of the Cabinet, President Ali addressed concerns raised by the community leaders and residents.
“My greatest joy as your President is to spend time with you in the communities, to listen to you, to hear you, to act on what you want … I want to hear your ideas, I want to hear your vision, I want to hear your concerns; I want to hear how you feel about what we are doing because we desire to do better for you every single day. That is what we want to do,” President Ali conveyed.
Concerns raised included the rehabilitation of roads and improved drainage, jobs for youths and access to water, among others.
President Ali and his delegation, which includes several Ministers of the Government, are on a two-day visit to Region One.
