Guyana Police seizes 1581 grams of cannabis, the arrested suspect takes charge

Georgetown, Guyana: The officers of Guyana seized 1581 grams of cannabis during a ‘Stop and Search’ operation conducted by them at Sarah Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. This search led to the apprehension of one individual who claimed ownership of the seized narcotics.

As per the details shared by the officers, they intercepted a silver Toyota Fielder Wagon HC 3486 during the exercise. The four occupants who were sitting in the vehicle were asked to move out from the car and subsequently, the authorities held an investigation of the vehicle. 

While conducting the search, they found a black and green haversack which contained three parcels wrapped in transparent plastic which was suspected to be cannabis. The interrogation of the officers with the four occupants resulted in one accepting the ownership of the haversack full of narcotics. The suspect has been identified as a 29-year-old male of Lot 39 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice. 

Following that, the authorities also held a search of the other three occupants but they found nothing illegal from them. According to the reports, the suspected cannabis discovered by the officers was transported to the Mahaicony Police Station where they weighed and it amounted equals 1581 grams of cannabis. 

Moreover, the authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and have promised to implement stringent measures in order to stop the smuggling and overconsumption of narcotic substances. The officers further added that they are continuously conducting such exercises with a vision to curb the increasing crime rate, making Guyana a peaceful and prosperous nation. 

Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views and opinions on the news. One person commented “It is good that officers are conducting such exercises to stop crime. There is definitely a big need to tackle such activities.”

Another person commented the following “The illegal consumption of drugs is very harmful, there is a need for the administration to guide citizens about the disastrous effects of narcotic substances.”
