Guyana: A horrifying incident has been reported from East Bank Demerara where a mother of four was stabbed brutally by her husband along with her nephew at her sister’s home. The incident that occurred on 8th September, Sunday, has left the community in shock.
The suspect is identified as James Lord, a 35-year-old Labourer who was, however, caught attempting suicide after the incident, and the police are conducting their investigations for further details.
According to reports, the woman was a 29-year-old farmer named Alexis Roxanne Harris who was known by her common name ‘Cullie’. She resided in Hill Foot, near Linden Soesdyke Highway with her husband and four children.
Investigations revealed that both the suspect and the victim got into an ugly argument two months back and the former had also threatened to kill her. The dispute which was a result of misunderstanding led the woman to move out of her home and she went to her sister’s house since then.
However, it was revealed that the suspect paid a visit to her wife on Sunday where he found her speaking over a phone call to which caused the suspect to get angry. He immediately took the cell phone and broke it.
As a result of which, the victim ran and sat on a staircase outside, where she was followed by the suspect, who allegedly took out a knife and attempted to stab her in the back. However, the victim’s nephew intervened.
He attempted to take away the knife but ended up getting stabbed in his abdomen to which he fell. The victim tried to protect herself, but the suspect caught her and stabbed her in the left breast and right hand. The woman then fell into a nearby drain, however, the suspect managed to escape.
As the crime scene caught the attention of the nearby community residents, they immediately ran to secure the child and took him to the nearby West Demerara Regional Hospital for treatment, and the woman’s body was also sent there.
The scene was immediately reported to the authorities and they detected the crime scene to look for any crime-related evidence including the weapons.
The police were able to arrest the suspect with the help of the community members and he was found with wounds on his abdomen, which he claimed to be made by himself as he attempted suicide.
