Guyana: MOU signed between Board of Industrial Training and Volunteer Youth Corps will deliver hard skills programmes catered to young persons.
The technical courses offered are Electrical Installation, Welding and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, which will run for six months, four days a week, with all training equipment provided by BIT.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing was attended by Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, Chief Executive Officer of BIT, Richard Maughn and CEO of Volunteer Youth Corps Incorporated, Goldie Scott and Technical Officer with the responsibility of region four, Leon Greaves.
In his speech, Maughn told those who attended the signing that cohesion between agencies is important for the implementation of technical and vocational training.
“So far, for the year, the Board of Industrial Training would have signed a few MOUs to make sure there is a collaboration with agencies, to pool resources to accomplish more. Further, on behalf of the Chairman of the BIT, who is otherwise engaged at this moment, we at the Board of Industrial Training want to register our gratitude and thankfulness for this opportunity to collaborate with the Volunteer Youth Corps Inc,” the CEO remarked.
Giving his featured address, Minister Hamilton mentioned that collaboration of will spread the delivery of technical and vocational effectively for young persons wherever they may be.
“It is important that persons grasp, specifically young persons, that no one can survive with one skill or talent in the world of today; I urge all prospective trainees to be strategic with their choices when going after learning a skill because only the multi-skilled will survived,” the minister stressed.
He also commended the instructors of the programme, who are mostly females, for them being good examples for young women to understand that they too can contribute to the sectors that are listed and dominated by males.
Forty (40) persons will be a part of the training, divided between the three offered programmes. The Volunteer Youth Corps has been in existence for 25 years and primarily works with young people to provide work readiness technical and vocational training in partnership with stakeholders.
