Guyana: BIT shares glimpse of Energy Agency Awareness Campaign

Guyana: The Ministry of Labour and the Board Institute of Training of Guyana announced that on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) Energy Engineer Brian Constantine handed over several pieces of equipment and gear to the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), Chief Executive Officer Richard Maughn, and Administrative Officer Indira Singh in the BIT’s boardroom.

The event is part of GEA’s ‘Energy Awareness’ campaign, which aims to provide technical and vocational institutions with such resources.

The ministry and the board also shared glimpse of the certification ceremony conducted on Friday, December 16, 2022. On Friday, Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, and Board of Industrial Training (BIT) Chief Executive Officer, Richard Maughn, witnessed twenty-five (25) students of Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School receive their certification during the school’s 23rd Graduation and Prize Giving Ceremony.

Capt Paul Ronald Reece, Chairman of the School Board; Guyana Civil Aviation Authority Director General, Lt Col Ret’d Egbert Field, Accountable and General Manager; Nalini Chanderban, PR Consultant, Kit Nascimento, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony at the National Cultural Centre (NCC).

Minister Hamilton congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their studies and encouraged them to pursue further opportunities to advance their careers.

He also reaffirmed his ministry’s support for training students attached to the institution, especially those from riverine and hinterland areas, through the Board of Industrial Training.

Last month, the minister and his technical team met with the institution’s officials to form a partnership via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement seeks to target students who may not meet the school’s entrance requirements but can be trained in skill sets common in engineering, with the goal of expanding the school’s operations to cover more competency-based vocational areas.
