Grenada: CSIRT encourages users of Windows to update to reduce vulnerability to cyber threats

Grenada: The Grenada National Cyber Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) is encouraging all users of the Microsoft Windows operating system to update their computers to reduce their vulnerability to a recent cyber-security threat which had the potential to gain access and take control of victims’ computers.

After issuing a workaround in response to the threat, Microsoft has now issued a fix for the cyber threat.

All users of Microsoft Windows are therefore being urged to promptly install the update, which was released on Tuesday.

As a general rule, the CSIRT advises that software updates should be installed as they become available to computer users, and this includes system and application updates for mobile devices and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

In addition to providing new features or improvements to existing features, software updates often address security flaws and remove software bugs.

To check for and install the Windows update:

1. Click on the Windows Start Menu

2. Type “Windows updates” and then hit the enter key on your keyboard

3. Click Check for updates

4. Download and install the available updates

The instructions are also available on Microsoft’s website.
