Govt of St Lucia distributes 400 food packages to Child Disability Grant

In February 2021, the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, Local Government, and Empowerment distributed four hundred (400) food packages to beneficiaries of the Child Disability Grant and Persons Living with HIV/AIDS. 

St Lucia: In February 2021, the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, Local Government, and Empowerment distributed four hundred (400) food packages to beneficiaries of the Child Disability Grant and Persons Living with HIV/AIDS. 

This initiative constitutes part of the government’s recovery and resilience strategies that form part of the national response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Ministry is grateful for the level of collaboration with its corporate, private sector partners to date and is particularly appreciative of the generous donations received – in this instance, a cheque of Forty-Five Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty Eastern Caribbean Dollars (EC$45,630) from the National Community Foundation which went towards the purchasing of food items for distribution to these four hundred vulnerable households islandwide.

Protecting the poor, marginalized, and most vulnerable of the population remains a priority of the Government of Saint Lucia, and while the challenges are beyond the Small Developing States like Saint Lucia, it remains resolute in its efforts as it continues to implement programs such as these. 

Talking about the COVID-19 update, Wednesday, March 3, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported confirmation of 24 new cases of coronavirus from the Ezra Long Laboratory. These results are from a batch of 98 samples taken on March 1 and March 2, 2021. The samples were processed on March 2, 2021.

All of the twenty-four cases were seen at various community respiratory clinics, where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocols, they were each placed in home quarantine by healthcare experts while awaiting receipt of their test results. Arrangements have been made to place these newly diagnosed cases into isolation. The contact tracing for these new coronavirus cases is underway.

Confirmation was also obtained of the recovery of 157 individuals diagnosed with COVID19. 537 cases have been recorded until now. Presently, three of the active cases require critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. 

Death #39 is a 62-year-old male with an underlying medical illness. He was admitted into care at the time of his passing. The Ministry of Health expresses condolences to the family and loved ones of this individual.
