Fully vaccinated travelers would not be quarantine in Jamaica: PM Holness

From July 1 2021, it has been announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness that the fully vaccinated person would not be required to quarantine upon his or her entry into Jamaica. This announcement has been made by PM Holness in the House of Representatives on June 22 2021, while giving a presentation.

Options have been given by PM Holness to the travellers who are fully vaccinated that they can now have PCR test and can only show their negative report and then they would not be quarantined or will be released from the quarantine.

PM Holness said that so essentially, who came into Jamaica and would be permitted to get their PRC test. Once that result has been negative, and they have been fully vaccinated, they would be released from quarantine.

PM Holness also stated that they have to recognize the lower risk posed by fully vaccinated persons. He might caution, however, that while the threat has been reduced, there has been still a risk that fully vaccinated persons might be carriers of the virus and might be able to transmit that to non-vaccinated person.

PM Holness said that maintaining the quarantine has been particularly important so that they could control the increasing spread of variant strains that might be acquired from travel.

Prime Minister Holness has been therefore urging everyone in Jamaica, including those who have been fully vaccinated, to wear their face masks and observe all Covid-19 protocols.

The Prime Minister said that the government does not recognize persons fully vaccinated till two weeks after they undergo the total dosage of the vaccine, meaning both doses in the case of a two-dose vaccine or one dose in the case of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Persons who are not entirely vaccinated still have to quarantine for 14 days.
