Four Guyanese awarded prestigious Chevening Scholarships 2023

Georgetown, Guyana: UK in Guyana – British High Commission in Georgetown announced that four Guyanese individuals will benefit from the Chevening Scholarship 2023. It also introduced the recipients of the scholarship.

The proud awardees are the following:

Amrita Naraine:
Amrita Naraine, Lead Researcher at ActionINVEST Caribbean Inc., is a shrewd professional whose background converges in data-driven strategic direction and innovation.
Amrita is set to pursue her MSc in Data Science and AI for the Creative Industries at the prestigious University of the Arts London, top 2 in the world for art and design technology.
With this, she is eager to respond to creative disruption through unconventional solutions in Mathematics and the Creative Economy, thereby promoting cultural diplomacy between Guyana and the global sphere.

Deanna Walcott:
Born and raised in Queenstown Village, Essequibo Coast, Deanna Walcott is a passionate literacy and oracy advocate who volunteers her time and skills towards youth development.
As a Chevening Scholar, she is poised to embark on an MSc journey in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Toastmaster Deanna works as an Environment and Safety Officer at Banks DIH Ltd. Beyond her professional and volunteer commitments, she finds solace in the pages of a good book, the comfort of a cup of tea, and the camaraderie of dominoes, all cherished amidst quality time with loved ones.

Joshua Benn:
Joshua Benn is an Attorney-at-Law and a Tutorial Lecturer in the University of Guyana’s Law Department. He previously served as a Legal Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, where he appeared before the International Court of Justice as an Adviser to the Government of Guyana.
Mr Benn will pursue an LLM in Oil, Gas, and Renewable Energy Law at Swansea University.

Keisha Edwards:
Keisha Edwards is the owner and Creative Director of the fashion brand Shasha Designs. She is an award-winning designer and graduate of the esteemed Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
While in University, Edwards was selected to participate in the first-ever Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, where she designed a sustainable gown, which debuted at Buckingham Palace in February 2018.
Keisha holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Guyana and has completed a certificate program in Fabric Selection and Design Style at the New School- Parsons School of Designs in the USA. She is also a member of the Guyana Fashion Council.
She will be pursuing an MA in Fashion Business Management at the University of Westminster.
