Former NBA star Dennis Rodman and his links with North Korea

Soaring the tensions between North Korea and outside the world is almost common in each conversation among the people. However, the meeting of the US delegation led by former president Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in 2018 somehow signals that the tensions could be eased through diplomacy.

The meeting between the world leaders at the outskirts of the Singapore summit in 2018 was seen as a ‘Nail-Biting’ situation among global leaders. Notably, it has never happened in the 21st century that the leaders of the USA and North Korea come face to face.

It is to be noted that the meeting made its way towards the unlikely friendship of Former NBA Star Dennis Rodman with the President of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. Not just limited to this only, but it has been also been alleged that it was Rodman who made the meeting between Trump and Kim Jong possible.

From being a Basketball player and Former NBA star, Rodman made his presence felt during the peak years of the Chicago Bulls in the NBA, and his friendship with Michael Jordan has been considered a significant part of his career.

Apart from this, Rodman has also been part of talks for his weird dressing sense and his preference for mystifying haircuts.

Historic meeting between USA and North Korea

It has been alleged that the meeting was mainly arranged at the Singapore Summit, which took place in 2018. The meeting directly makes its connection with the key role played by Rodman in convening the meeting.

Rodman, a five-time NBA champ, is considered one of just a few Westerners to ever meet with Kim, who has been publicly hostile towards Western nations, including the United States.

Considerably, Rodman arrived in Singapore overnight by openly wiping off tears from beneath a large pair of black sunglasses. He was feeling emotional as Kim and Trump got ready to sit down for a discussion in the Asian city-state.

This historic meeting took years in the making. Rodman has been praised for his role in bringing the two leaders together, a moment which was never witnessed before. 

The former player added that he always believed in helping North Korea as he got familiar with the situation and culture of the country, which made him feel like at home. 

Rodman wanted Former US President Trump to understand that the people of North Korea have soul, heart, and charisma, and the natives love each other and follow the practice of fraternity. 

He also disclosed the fact that he tried to meet former US President Barack Obama, but Obama did not give him the time of day.

It has been evident that Kim Jong loves to watch basketball games and his fondness for the Chicago Bulls. He seemingly has a soft corner for Rodman, who was a part of the Bulls during Michael Jordan’s legendary reign. 

Rodman was invited by Kim to the capital city of Pyongyang in March 2013 for the pairs’ first meeting. A sports influencer was captured hugging Kim, and despite facing criticism across the globe, the friendship between both remained the same.
