Amid a constantly growing global worry over plastic, a new product that is shaking the internet is a gelatinous water ball called the “Ooho.”
These edible water blobs appeared to be the creation of Skipping Rocks Lab, a team of creative students from RCA and Imperial College, London, and the best replacement for plastic bottled water might just be here.
The Ooho water blob is a sphere that comprises water and a gelatinous outer layer derived from a natural seaweed extract. This unusual and rather provocative appearance of this food can hardly be described as dangerous to consumers’ health and is absolutely harmless concerning the environment.
When the water blobs are not utilised within four to six weeks, the membrane dissolves on its own without the need of any other product involvement. This character makes them the perfect candidates in combating the use of plastics which is now a thorny issue in environmental conservation across the globe.
While plastic water bottles are one of the major causes of the increasing amounts of plastic waste, the Ooho water blob provides the alternative to using such products anymore. When used, traditional plastic bottles can take hundreds of years to biodegrade and in the process forms microplastics which pollutes the water sources, and harm aquatic life.
As for the Ooho blobs, we have a product that is incredibly short-lived but could potentially save the world from a huge amount of plastic if people started using these gelatinous spheres instead.
The event of encountering Ooho reflects the emerging global trend to make environmentally friendly products. The origin of Skipping Rocks Lab is in the larger movement to redefine packaging and other materials to prevent further harm to the environment.
With Ooho’s ability to replace plastic bottles in different occasions such as the sports events or normal water consumption, it might just be the solution that could help alleviate the issue on using plastics.
Despite the fact that the method is not thoroughly popular at the moment, there are no doubts with its ability to influence the behaviour of consumers and help minimize the usage of plastics.
Overall, the Ooho water blob is a perfect example of how it is possible to improve the existing approach to solving the problem of human’s dehydration. Plastic pollution prevailing and as the world looks for ways to fight it, such inventions such as the Ooho could go a long way in ensuring that the planet is kept safe for generations to come.
