Dwayne Bravo announces retirement, stepping on new role as KKR’s mentor for IPL
Dwayne Bravo announces retirement after 21 years in cricket, transitioning to mentor role with Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming season.

Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement after his long and illustrious professional cricket career of 21 years. His final season in the CPL 2024 was cut short due to injury, marking the end of an era, but with a start of a new chapter as a mentor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
DJ Bravo announced his retirement on Friday and stated “I say goodbye to the cricket that has given me everything. From five, I knew this was what I wanted to do and I was destined to play Cricket.”
The player further noted that he had no interest in anything else, but cricket. He stated that he has dedicated his entire life to this game and in return, he got the life that he dreamt of, for himself and for his family.
While shedding light on his long journey of 21 years as a professional cricketer, he stated that it had been an incredible one, filled with many highs and a few lows. Bravo asserted that he was able to live his dream of playing for his country on an international platform, because he gave his 100% at every step.
Bravo shared about his desire to continue his relationship with cricket but got hit by a reality. He stated that his mind wants him to keep going but his body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns and the strain. He added that he can’t put himself in a position where he might let down his teammates, fans or the teams he represents.
“So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell,” noted Dwayne Bravo.
Moreover, he extended gratitude to all his fans from all over the world for their unwavering love and support throughout the years. He thanked them for always standing by his side, especially in these recent weeks.
He stated that he has no regrets about his career or the decisions he has taken and now, is looking forward to his next chapter, aiming to achieve greater heights in that as well.
Dwayne Bravo has set a huge benchmark in his T20 career, becoming one of the leading T20 wicket-taker in the history. He announced his retirement from international cricket in 2021 and later stepped away from the Indian Premier League last year.
After that, he has worked as a bowling coach with Chennai Super Kings, IPL team and the Afghanistan men’s team. Now, Bravo will join as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders in the coming season and won’t be a part of CSK anymore.
The CEO of Trinbago Knight Riders also congratulated Bravo for his amazing journey and stated that a lot of people would only dream about such a career, but he has succeeded wherever he’s gone.
He further added that Bravo had a strong record of winning wherever he’s gone and he has brought the same to TKR and has always been an integral part of the success of the team.
“So, I want to wish him the very best in his new winnings whatever that might be,” noted CEO.
