Dr William Dexter James ready to develop health care sector in Dominica

On Sunday 11 July, during the Annou Pale  where the Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit had a discussion with Dr William Dexter James, who is the CEO- Dominica China Friendship Hospital and Dr Ruby Blanc Hospital Medical Director. The issue was the new administrative structure and its impact on health care.

PM Roosevelt questioned Dr William Dexter James, who is the CEO- Dominica China Friendship, that what would be his role as a CEO of the hospital.

Dr William Dexter James, while answering to the question, said that he could define his role in different ways. First of all, he would set a strategic direction for a long way of medical development in Dominica.

Dr William Dexter James said that he would be increasing financial strength and also enhance the medical operating system. According to him, he would increase the ways to get feedback an to make correction in them.

The new specialists have been called as the step forward for the development of hospital and medical facilities. The packages should be affordable and sustainable. 

Dr William Dexter James also highlighted that Dominica have 2 Urologist along with its staff, 3 ophthalmologists, 3 oncologists, 2 gastroenterologists. To enhance the development they would be bringing to operate the diseases those have not been treated in Caribbean region or would provide a good facilities to them those would be referred for overseas treatment. Dr William Dexter James highlighted that Dominican government spent 2.5 million dollars on patients those were referred overseas.

Dr Blanc, while answering the questions of PM Skerrit, stated that the nation is working on strengthening the primary health care facilities for which the island is reviewing the health care facilities, which also includes training of Doctors and nurses and compensation. 

She further noted that there are many projects which are going on to strengthen the health care department. She then also highlighted the MoU – Memorandum Of Understanding, which was signed on 10 July 2021 by the Minister of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment Dr Irving McIntyre with the World Pediatric Project (WPP).
