St Kitts and Nevis: Dr. Terrance Drew has requested for transparency and fairness that the DPP Valston Graham “engage external Counsel to take care and conduct and prosecute the matter on behalf of your office.
According to St Kitts-Nevis, Labour Party Attorneys of Dr. Terrance Drew have requested in the interest of fairness and transparency that the DPP Valston Graham engage external Counsel to take care and conduct and prosecute the matter on behalf of your office.
Dr. Drew retained a QC of Jamaica to deal with the preparation of the matter with the intention of instructing her to prosecute the case.
The proposed QC is a former Senior Deputy Director of Prosecution in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Kingston, Jamaica. She has been an Attorney-at-Law for more than 25 years and currently has an extensive law practice.
Her expertise is in civil and criminal law. In the letter written to the DPP, Dr. Drew’s attorneys described her expertise, stating, She is a prosecutor by fiat of the Director of Public Prosecutions offering law enforcement and other support in complex fraud investigations, prosecutions, and assets recovery.
Having the QC prosecute the court matter will provide a level of transparency and greater hope for fairness in the case.
It was also noted that as a reason for the DPP taking over the case, it is likely that he will interview both Dr. Drew and the witness. There has been much concern surrounding the interview process. Considering the uncertainty of the DPP’s ability to be fair and transparent, it was requested that they will be allowed to have Counsel of their choice present.
Dr. Terrance Drew continues to demand that fairness, transparency, and justice be meted out in this case.
Besides, Dr. Terrance Drew’s attorneys responded to DPP Valston Graham’s demand for full disclosure of proof in a detailed letter on February 25, 2021. Three days after the petition was made unexpected in the last court extent on February 22, 2021.
