Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has a meeting with the President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) – Dr Hyginus ‘Gene’ Leon. The CDB President is on his first trip to Dominica since he assumed office on May 4, 2021.
“This morning, I met with Dr Hyginus ‘Gene’ Leon, the President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). Dr Leon assumed office on May 4, 2021. This is his first trip to Dominica, and we extended a warm welcome to Nature Island,” Prime Minister took social media to inform.
Both delegations discussed the two latest projects, which have been attaining funds from the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UKCIF).
“Our discussion centred on the CDB’s recent endorsement of two major projects with funding from the UK Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UKCIF). The Bank will administer the funds,” PM Skerrit mentioned.
Rehabilitation of 11 km of roadway between the Loubiere Bridge and Grand Bay will be financed with grant funding of US$32.9 million (EC$88. 8 million) from the Government of the United Kingdom; a Government of Dominica contribution of US$10.7 million (EC$28.8 million); and a CDB loan of US$5.5 million (EC$14.8 million) to cover the construction of the Mitchum Bridge.
A UK Government grant of US$30.3 (EC$81.8 million) and the Government of Dominica and DOWASCO’s contribution of US$9.2 million (EC$24.8 million) will finance the Water Sector Strategic Development Project to improve water supply and distribution infrastructure and upgrade the Jimmit wastewater system.
The water project will benefit communities along the West Coast (Coulibistrie Intake), the Roseau Valley, Calibishie, and East Coast communities from Castle Bruce to Morne Jaune.
We extend sincere thanks to the United Kingdom Government for this very generous contribution to our national development.
