Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit meets FCDO Minister for Americas and Caribbean David Rutley

Roseau, Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, had an interactive session with MP David Rutley, FCDO Minister for Americas and Caribbean. The discussion between both the leaders emphasised at the innovative climate financing between both the countries.

The Prime Minister took social media and expressed his gratitude towards MP. The post read, “I was pleased to meet MP @DavidRutley, FCDO Minister for Americas & Caribbean.”

While outlining the discussed topics, the post informed, “We discussed several matters, including innovative climate financing and bilateral partnership between the UK and Dominica.”

The update was also shared by the Office of the Prime Minister of Dominica. The shared update about the meeting read, “Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit met MP for Macclesfield and the Minister of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office for Americas and Caribbean David Rutley.”

This meeting is an important step towards the journey of Dominica towards the climate resilient. The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has been working to pave the wave to offer a sustainable future. The country has been efficiently dealing with adverse climate conditions regularly, the country is at the forefront in the war against climate change.

Many have believed that the major reason behind the natural disasters, affecting the country, is global warming. The intensity and frequency of the natural disasters have been increased in the Caribbean region. The nation has faced deadly Hurricanes – Hurricane Maria and Irma.

The aftermath of the hurricanes was so deadly that more than 75 percent of the population was affected, directly or indirectly. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, during United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), proudly vowed that he will work to build Dominica as the world’s first climate resilient country in the world.

Following this, the nation has witnessed development and growth in almost every sector, from housing to education to health. It is worth noting that the United Kingdom has always supported Dominica and has provided financial assistance, as per the requirements.
