Roseau, Dominica: Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, recently paid an official visit to the Grand Bay constituency to survey the ongoing housing development project. During this visit, PM Skerrit was accompanied by some of the Cabinet members, including his wife and Minister of Housing of Dominica, Melissa Poponne-Skerrit.
During the visit, he interacted with a few media personnel and mentioned that the residents of Dubuc will be receiving a combination of three- and two-bedrooms housing units.
He also mentioned that he would also be recognising the housing need for Grand Bay. “We’ve also made provision for housing in Grand Bay. I believe in the first instance, ten (10) new housing units were renovated to be located specifically to the residents of Grand Bay.”
In addition to that, PM Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted that the government of Dominica has some land and there are still discussions about whether it sells lots for individuals in Grand Bay. “We like to build their own homes or whether we should do an addition in building the homes and sell them to some of the residents in Grand Bay,” he stated.
PM Skerrit also mentioned, “We’re a hurricane shelter with all of the supporting amenities.” He added, “We’re also building a new stand-alone magistrate court, not utilising this space as existing in the police station. With all of the support services to allow the magistrate to carry this function.”
While further emphasising on housing project, PM Roosevelt Skerrit noted that the government of Dominica is building 420 homes across the nation, and almost every day, someone is going to home without charging any cost to them.
In addition to this, Prime Minister Skerrit assured that his government would continue to work for the betterment of the people. He promised to implement plans and strategies which would focus on employment generation within the nation.
Along with this, he mentioned that during the construction or rehabilitation of housing units across the nation, including the Grand Bay constituency, locals would be employed. “Our government will always provide employment to locals so that efficient, skilled and hardworking youth of Dominica is employed and self-sufficient,” said Prime Minister Skerrit.
