Dominica: Melissa Skerrit works to improve farming in Roseau Central

Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Central Constituency Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, has asked the people of the country to join her hands in the upliftment of the farmers of Dominica.

Roseau, Dominica: Parliamentary Representative of Roseau Central Constituency and the wife of the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit – Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, has asked the people of the country to join her hands in the upliftment of the farmers of Dominica.

Melissa Skerrit outlined that she with her team have been working on upgrading the growth of potato grow bags with specialized ventilation and visualization windows to see when their root crops are ready for easy harvesting.

Melissa Poponne-Skerrit specially called the ladies of Dominica and stated, “Ladies, the fete is over, and we have buried carnival till 2024. Let’s get busy. Join me in becoming a modern-day farmerette!”

She further shared her experience with the farmers on February 23, 2023, and said, “Yesterday, a few experienced farmers joined me in utilizing potato grow bags with specialized ventilation and visualization windows to see when your root crops are ready for easy harvesting.”

She also mentioned, “Also, we explored vertical farming with hanging wall planters to grow a variety of herbs. These are ideal farming techniques if you reside in the city, lack access to farmland, or you’re simply like me and looking for a quick, easy method while maintaining a fresh manicure.”

Melissa Skerrit stated, “Seedlings, organic fertilizer, and potato grow bags will be provided to interested farmers in Roseau Central.”

Furthermore, she asked the people of Dominica to come and join hands with her in planting more crops. The post by Parliamentary Representative noted, “Join me in growing tomatoes, carrots, peppers, herbs, potatoes, onions, flowers and much more in our city alleyways, porches and mini backyards.”

This initiative by Melissa Skerrit was supported and praised by the citizens and residents of the country. People took the comment section to praise the leader; one of the users stated, “Great excellent, am interested”, while another said, “Wow! Great idea. We’d love to try this at Thibaud Primary.” The third one mentioned, “Can’t wait, I am definitely in that. One of my passion is urban gardening. Growing what we eat.”
