Dominica: The Parish T10 Cricket Festival final has been disrupted because of the heavy rainfall in the Commonwealth of Dominica. The Sports Division of Dominica has stated that overnight and early morning showers are responsible for the postponement of the finale.
While informing about the match, the Sports Division noted, “Overnight and early morning showers have forced yet another postponement of the Parish T10 Cricket Festival Final.” The next date for hosting the match will be shared by the division soon.
Furthermore, it informed that the 3rd place match and final were planned for Sunday after postponement last Sunday due to waterlogged conditions.
It also clarified that this field was once a swamp which would be affected by the simplest downpour. Significant work was done to get this park to a level that it could be used when it rains; a well-coordinated drainage system was installed, and the entire park was resurfaced.
As per an early update, St Andrew and St Peter were qualified for the final of the T10 Parish Cricket Festival following semi-final wins on Sunday 13th.
The semi-final matches of the Cricket Festival were played at Benjamin’s Park. The first semi-final was between St Patrick versus St Andrew, and the second semi-final was between St George versus St Peter.
Rainfall and thunderstorm have become a prominent reason for the cancellation of many events in the country and nearby regions. According to the weather update by Dominica Meteorological Department, the nation witnessed partly cloudy to cloudy, slightly hazy and breezy at times, with a few showers on Sunday night and Monday. The speed of the wind was estimated to be NE @ 20 to 40 km/h with higher gusts, but the condition of the sea was expected to be moderate, with a wave at 2.0 to 2.5 meters or 7.0 to 8.0 feet.
The Department has furthermore issued a warning/advisory, “A Small Craft Advisory Is In Effect For Above Normal Seas.”
