Dominica, Guadeloupe to experience heavy rainfall for 24-48 hours

Caribbean: Heaviest showers have spared most of the Leewards so far this morning except over Guadeloupe and Dominica, where a few areas of additional 25-100 mm fell in the 6hr period ending 10 am. Parts of Guadeloupe have totalled over 300 mm/ 12inches, and flooding has been reported near the capital.

Bands of heavy convection are just east of the Leewards and near the Virgin Islands.

There is a risk of heavy showers moving into the NW Leewards, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico today, with the associated risk of flash flooding and mudslides in some locations. The risk decreases for Guadeloupe and south Leewards by this afternoon.

A few showers will affect the Windwards, but mostly light. Partly cloudy and hazy skies are expected rest of the weekend.

Rainfall figures from station in Guadeloupe last 24 hours:

– 140 mm in Roujol Petit-Bourg
– 146 mm at Anse-B
– 167 mm to Christophe Goyaves
– 167 mm in Port Louis
– 209 mm at Chazeaux Abymes
– 247 mm at Gros Cap Petit-Canal
– 308 mm at Leroux Gosier
– 311 mm at Raizet Abymes

“This trough system is really packing a punch,” asked one of the users on social media. While replying the same, the Eastern Caribbean Weather Updates replied, “Yes it is. St. Lucia and St. Vincent were lucky 2 days ago when a band of 230-300 mm fell just offshore. The models were not showing those kinds of totals so I knew it could dump more when jet stream activated.”

While another user was shocked after knowing about the excessive rainfall.
