St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris has recently announced some measures to combat the rising cost of living.

The measures were announced after the Cabinet briefing on April 28, 2022.

While announcing the measures, PM Harris said that the final measure, which would be implemented to combat the rising cost of living, including food and fuel, was presented in the Cabinet by the Financial Secretary.

The discussion related to this was begun weeks ago between the Ministry of Finance and the Cabinet.

As per the joint order by the Ministry of Finance and the Cabinet, some of the measures have been implemented. The measures include – adjusting the price for fuel and regulating prices for bread and other bakery products.

The Government has made this announcement about St Kitts and Nevis amid the political turmoil in the country. Currently, the nation has been witnessing arguments between the leaders of Team Unity.

Leaders of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) have shown a no-confidence motion against PM Harris. They have demanded that the Governor-General must change the Prime Minister. The demand was raised by six (6) leaders of PAM and CCM through an open letter.

However, PM Harris answered the concerns of the leader on April 27, 2022.

In the comment section, the people of St Kitts and Nevis were divided. Some favoured the decision of the Government, while some raised questions about them.

One of the users wrote, “Good job Dr The honorable prime minister Timothy Harris forever,” while another mentioned, “You are a man with a good heart for your People and country… God will see you through. PM Press on….” While the third one stated, “Bakery products, you say lol .look how long supermarket prices high, yal do anything about that yet?”
