Dominica Budget 2023: Minister McIntyre unveils Marina project in Cabrits
Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica announced that it has been planning to develop a marina in Cabrits.

Roseau, Dominica: The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica announced that it has been planning to develop a marina in Cabrits. This construction plan comes amid the Government’s development plans for the Northern areas of the country.
This announcement was made by Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security – Dr Irving McIntyre, while presenting the budget on July 25, 2023.
In this regard, the Minister of Finance said, “The work would commence on the marina project within the next two years. I am happy to report to the House and the people of Dominica that the Government has signed an agreement for the construction of a marina at the Cabrits.”
While updating the ministers and the general public, the Minister outlined that the experts have completed the environmental and feasibility studies. Along with this, he highlighted that the design for the project is also finished, following which the construction for this project will be commenced in November 2023.
According to the Government, the construction of the Marina will provide a dedicated slip for yachts. It is anticipated that it will offer a flexible spacing for the berthing super yachts, a repair yard, a fuel farm, a customs house, an administrative building, and commercial spaces to be leased to businesses desirous of offering goods and services to visitors. The Marina will be of length up to 60 ft, according to the Government.
In addition to this, Finance Minister highlighted that the commencement of the construction of the Marina will surely boost the potential of marine tourism. The construction will commence in Portsmouth. The Government has optimised that this project will greatly enhance the appeal to yachting enthusiasts and contribute to the stay-over arrival goals. This project will improve the nation’s capabilities and visitor experience for those who seek the enhanced services that this Marina will provide.
The Minister also highlighted that this is a significant investment, which will contribute towards the improvement of access to the Commonwealth of Dominica. “These efforts are substantial, and the government continues to make improvements to our road network,” stated the Minister of Finance McIntyre.
Regarding this, he mentioned that the $127 million East Coast Road, from Bois Diable to Hatton Garden via Castle Bruce and the Kalinago Territory, is expected to be completed by the end of this year (December 31, 2023). “Though it is incomplete, residents of the area can already attest to the improvements in the comfort, safety and driving experience in the completed sections,” the Minister stated.
