Dominica aims to enhance livelihood through 2024-25 budget: PM Roosevelt Skerrit.

Roseau, Dominica: The 2024-2025 budget address will be presented on Friday, 26th July 2024 by the Minister of Finance, Dr Irving McIntyre. The information was shared by the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit in a press conference on Monday.

Notably, PM Roosevelt Skerrit attended a press conference and answered several questions of the media members and shared updates on several matters of national importance.

While shedding light on the budget address, the leader noted that they will seek to present a fiscal package that responds to the social and economic realities of the citizens of the island nation. Along with that he also mentioned that through this budget they will aim to design policies that can led to create a positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of the citizens of the country, taking into consideration the current global realities.

PM Skerrit shared that several countries in this world are grappling with the economic fallout of geopolitical conflicts, disease and disaster, which have resulted in inflation, loss of income and an increase in inequality.

Therefore, he added that his administration is adamant to not immune to such economic shocks. PM Skerrit noted that they have persisted in investing in social safety nets and the productive sectors with a vision to counteract adverse impacts and also to keep all people in jobs, young people in universities, and provide optimum support to households and small businesses in order to ensure their economic stability.

While shedding light on the primary focus of the 2024-25 budget address, PM Skerrit remarked that it will focus on the efforts to consolidate the gains that they have made in recent years. He noted that the budget will also outline the priorities and measures undertaken by his administration to stimulate economic activity, create employment and improve long-term efficiency.

The leader also shared the topics that will be shared by the Minister of Finance. He asserted that the Minister of Finance is expected to discuss a new structure for the nursing service in Dominica. He will also shed light on the creation of several new positions, which will allow for the upward mobility of the nurses of the island nation in order to recognize them with the specialist training.

PM Skerrit shared that they discussed this new approach with the nurses, who expressed their excitement and are looking forward to the implementation of the new budget address.

Moreover, the leader of the nation also pointed out that this budget will greatly benefit the citizens of the nation. He expressed his confidence that the people of Dominica will be pleased with the presentation and the contents of the budget.
