The extension team of the Ministry of Dominica introduced pot culture to raise the interest among women in an easier and less labor intensive concept of producing agricultural crops.

Roseau, Dominica: The extension team of the Ministry of Dominica introduced pot culture to raise the interest among women in an easier and less labor intensive concept of producing agricultural crops. 

Such a concept introduced for the production of agricultural crops will be used in the culinary creations serving for better nutrition. The activities are held at the South East Agricultural Region as part of International Women’s Day 2024. 

The development of the agriculture sector in Dominica, the Southeast Region has presented the hopes to increase non-traditional crops and cropping systems. This is taken as the part of Health Education and Agriculture with Love H.E.A.L Programme. Such an initiative would benefit the farmers and residents in the catchment area.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Blue and Green Economy, Dominica shared the glimpses of the women having fun and getting things done within the agricultural region.

Yesterday, the International Women’s Day was celebrated and the women in agriculture were appreciated for the contributions they have given to the respective sector. The Ministry of Agriculture extended a salute to the farmers and fishers who achieved certain recognitions within their respective subsectors.

The Ministry congratulated the women from the subsectors, which include Ezee Side Cassava Delicacies, Cochrane women in action, Bella Joachim, and Layou Farmers and Fishers Women Group, which is Titiri harvesting and packaging.

Dominica, not only celebrated the achievements of women in agriculture. However, Melissa Skerrit, the Urban Development and Housing Minister hosted the events to encourage the women of Dominica.

SHE-PRENEUR, a bus tour event, was one of the events introduced by Melissa Skerrit to raise the voice for the female entrepreneurs. Such a tour aims to enhance the connectivity between shoppers and markets who are under the roof of sustainable cities.

This states that along with the agriculture sector, the business sector as well is encouraged to promote women’s leadership.
