Dominica, Roseau: The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has been planning to start contract signing for the betterment and enhancement of livestock farmers across the country. As per the latest update by the government, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy’s Emergency Agricultural, in collaboration with Climate Resilience Project (EALCRP), has recently started contract signing for livestock farmers.
The signing will occur in six regions of the country, including North, West, East, South, Southeast and Central. This initiative will be held as a part of Component A: Restoration of the Productive Base for the Recovery of Agricultural Livelihoods. The government has been anticipating that as many as 217 farmers from these six agricultural regions will be benefited.
According to the government, the ministry has been planning to provide farmers with the material based on their assessed values and production levels before the landfall of Hurricane Maria in the year 2016. This will help the livestock farmers to rebuild and rehabilitate houses for their animals.
The beneficiary packages are expected to range between EC $1,000 to EC $50,000, with the total amounts allocated to this component, including for the Northeast Agricultural Region, in excess of EC$ 6 million.
While explaining the eligibility of the farmers, it noted that these agreements would be open for the livestock farmers who were previously approved. The framers will be granted materials and supplies by the end of May 2023. The supply will be released as soon as possible so that the work to rehabilitate and reconstruct the housing structure for animals can be commenced rapidly.
The contract signing ceremony is scheduled to happen at the DAPEX Warehouse Facility in Fond Cole from 9 am to 2 pm.
The government of Dominica has asked the livestock farmers to participate in the process with full enthusiasm and excitement. It further outlined that farmers’ participation in this process will enable the completion of individual disbursements and overall execution of the project activities. Farmers who are unable to do so are asked to contact or visit the Project Implementation Unit.
