Devynne Charlton became the third Caribbean woman to bring a Gold medal for the Caribbean region. Bahamas star athlete has achieved a remarkable victory in the women’s 60m hurdles final at the World Athletics Indoor Championship.

Devynne Charlton became the third Caribbean woman to bring a Gold medal for the Caribbean region. Bahamas star athlete has achieved a remarkable victory in the women’s 60m hurdles final at the World Athletics Indoor Championship.
The Championship was conducted at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland on Sunday, 3rd March. Charlton not only brought the gold world for the Bahamas but also created a new World record and was crowned World Indoor Champion.

She created a record of 7.65s in the 60m and broke her record which she created a few weeks ago of 7.67 seconds in Millrose Games in New York. The new time frame set up by Charlton is also the new championship record that helped her win her first-ever gold medal in track and field.
Meanwhile, the defending champion, Cyrena Samba- Mayela who defeated Charlton for the last two years to clinch the gold medal, secured second position this time in 7.74 seconds and Pia Skrzyszowska, of Poland, clinched third position and bronze medal, in a time of 7.79 seconds.
Whereas, Charisma Taylor, the other finalist of Bahamas secured sixth position and finished the race in 7.92 seconds in the Women’s 60m hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Championship in Glasgow.
Along with her, Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia and Thea Lafond of Dominica have also won gold medals for their country and created history by becoming the athletes to bring the first-ever gold medal for their respective countries at the World Athletics Indoor Championship.
These three Caribbean female athletes are shining on the global stage and shedding light on the support they have received from the Caribbean regions.
These accomplishments by the women also signify how the Caribbean leaders are promoting women in various fields and helping them to elevate the women of their nation to greater heights.
Several community residents flooded social media with their congratulations and best wishes to Devynne Charlton for her remarkable victory.
One person with a Facebook account Addrean Robinson commented “Congrats Devynne! been watching her progress from carifta days this young lady will be a beast.”
Another person with a Facebook handle Jae Green commented the following “Congratulations to Devynne, and special shout out to Charisma who came along and snatched her heat to put 2 in the finals.”
“Congratulations Devynne Charlton. May God continue to bless you as you represent our Beautiful Nation,” wrote W Damian Berry.
