Destructive actions of developed nations affecting SIDS: President Burton during Budget address
The President of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton presented the inaugural address at the Parliament during the budget presentation 2024/2025 and highlighted the destructive actions of the developed nations which are affecting Small Island Developing States.

Roseau, Dominica: The President of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton presented the inaugural address at the Parliament during the budget presentation 2024/2025 and highlighted the destructive actions of the developed nations which are affecting Small Island Developing States.
During her inaugural address, the President shed light on the climate change and the problems being faced by the island nation. She stated that the change in climate is continuing to pose threat to countries like small island developing states, known for extensive marine, limited access to finance and high vulnerability climate change.
She added that it is so unfortunate and unfair that SIDS and their population are suffering due to the worst actions of the developed world. She added that such action requires for global call and the developed nations need to recognize and accept that their actions are affecting the existence and development of Small Island Developing States.
Therefore, she asked the developed nations to provide funding to the SIDS and support them to bring resilience. She stated that their lack of actions affects us them first and later think they are favouring small countries. The President noted that “they are not favouring us.”
