Roseau, Dominica: The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has announced Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has welcomed the nation to take over the operations of the former Cabrits Resort and Spa Kempinski. The Hotels Group was welcomed by Tourism Minister Denise Charles.
After taking over the operation, Kempinski will become the brand’s third Caribbean resort hotel when it reopens in the spring of 2023.
Denise Charles, during the ceremony, expressed pleasure and stated that the government of Dominica is glad and excited about the prospects for the newly branded InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa. She further outlined that the resort will be offering a luxurious and unique experience to travellers wanting to discover the natural beauty.
Tourism Minister Charles was quoted saying, “This rebranding presents a possibility for a fresh start, a different approach to the management and operations of the resort. We are confident this will result in an increased stay over visitor arrivals to Dominica and greater exposure for our island, especially in the North American source market.”
Furthermore, she outlined that the IHG is not new to the Caribbean Region. Charles mentioned that Grenada has been witnessing the construction of two IHG-branded resorts.
The Minister also praised the Hotels Group for their work in more than 100 countries. She mentioned that Intercontinental Hotels Group is a respected brand and one of the leading hotel brands in the world. Charles outlined that a total of 325,000 people have been working under the brand.
The brand has been boasting over $100 million members, and as of February 2023, $11.70 billion were market capped by the IHG. The Minister stated, “The change in management can only auger well for the Cabrits Resort & Spa and for Dominica’s tourism industry.” Denise Charles outlined, “We look forward to a fruitful partnership with IHG; and pledge the full support of the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Dominica during the transition phase and beyond as we work together to build our island’s tourism industry.”
