Cuba: Caribbean’s largest country Cuba, is making its own vaccine. The Cuban government has disclosed that Starting in March, two of the island’s four homegrown vaccine candidates will launch their third and final trials.

Whereas other developed countries are fighting with richer nations for a specific supply of jabs of vaccines, Cuba has arranged whatever is needed on manufacturing their own vaccines.

Cuba has manufactured two types of vaccines- Soberana (Spanish for sovereignty) and Abdala( name of a poem by Cuban revolutionary icon Jose Marti, holds a great place in the war for freedom against the Spanish referring to Cuban guerillas)

Scientists of Cuba will initiate final trials for Soberana-02 and Abdala vaccines this month. Moreover, the island observes a surge in new coronavirus cases.

Initially, Cuba was able to regulate the spread of the lethal pandemic but the reopening of international travelers in December which was the disastrous decision that exacerbated the active cases.

Cuban government’s statistics revealed, February has been the deadliest month till now for the Caribbean nation, confirmed with 108 deaths and 7642 new COVID-19 cases.

The scientists of Cuba are sure that these Cuban vaccines will prove as a boon in the future. It will surely aid in the fight against COVID-cases and also the impacts of lethal coronavirus on the nation’s economy.

Soberana 02 working

Cuba’s most-tested vaccine candidate, Soberana 02, is a conjugate vaccine that carries part of the spike protein from the respective virus, binding it to human cells.

Scientists will not know how effective and efficient the vaccine is until they finish the Phase 3 trials, and they are currently investigating whether vaccinating with Soberana 02 will need giving patients three doses of the vaccine or not.

Additionally, Cuba still requires to demonstrate that it can handle the massive build-up in the production rate that will need to manufacture tens of millions of doses. The success of the vaccine can rectify the economic crisis impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
