COVID alert: Air Canada suspends flight services to major Caribbean countries

Air Canada suspends flights to Caribbean countries following COVID,

Caribbean region: Air Canada airline announced that it suspended flight services to the majority of Caribbean destinations following the COVID-19 outbreak. The suspension will be in effect from January 24, 2022, and will remain in effect until April 30, 2022. 

Following is the list of Caribbean nations to which the non-essential flight service is going to be suspended from Canada – 

  1. St Kitts and Nevis
  2. St Vincent and the Grenadines 
  3. Grenada 
  4. Cuba 
  5. Saint Marteen 
  6. Antigua & Barbuda 
  7. Curacao 
  8. Aruba 
  9. Exuma 
  10. Grand Cayman
  11. Santo Domingo
  12. Bermuda 

The airline officials underscored that this decision had been taken to ensure the safety of Canadian residents at the time when new variants are discovered by the researchers. 

The statement issued by the airline authorities cites, “To assist assure that Canadians are not – stranded abroad. Air Canada plans to operate the number of one-way commercial flights from impacted destinations in order to return individuals at the suspended destinations to Canada”. 

The company officials made the announcement on Wednesday. Travellers who already booked their dates in the time period of suspension time will be provided with a refund from the Canadian airline. The team will contact each affected customers, who will receive an invoice as a sign of confirmation of their refund once it has been issued.  

Airline officials furthermore reminded the travellers that they are required to present a negative COVID-19 test before they board a flight to Canada from any destination while providing valid evidence of their vaccination. 

Meanwhile, the airline has also discontinued its flights to and from Israel and Hong Kong till March 1, 2022.
