CARICOM discussed Belize-Guatemala border dispute in recent meeting

 The new meeting of the CARICOM community was held virtually on Thursday, where several issues concerning the community were discussed.  The ongoing dispute between Belize and Guatemala was also addressed.

The foreign ministries of CARICOM  asked all members to come together and work upon the coordination of foreign policies to pick up their voice high at one time together and achieve success in future and put the country on the road of development.

Council for Foreign and Community Relations stressed increasing the candidature of CARICOM in other multilateral bodies. Till now, the result is very effective whether the candidature in United Nations and Organizations of American States.

Association of Caribbean States (ASC) welcomed Rodolfo Sabonge as the new Secretary-General, and this decision was agreed on by every member in the meeting. 

The border disputes were also brought to the notice in the meeting.  COFCOR has said that this case is directly in front of the International Court of Justice. So, at last, whatever decision will be finalized by ICJ, both the countries have to work according to the decision.

The meeting was joined by Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados;  E. P. Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade of Antigua and Barbuda, Oliver Joseph, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and CARICOM Affairs of Grenada; Dr Kenneth Darroux, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Claude Joseph.

Besides this, other dignitaries, including the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Republic of Haiti Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Guyana,  Kamina Johnson-Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica; Albert Ramdin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname; Mark A.G. Brantley, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation of the Federations of St.Kitts and Nevis and Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, also joined the meeting.
