CAF donates US $800,000 to assist recovery of five Caribbean countries affected by Beryl.

Caribbean Islands were left devastated by Hurricane Beryl. Following that, CAF- Development Banks of Latin America and the Caribbean has made a generous donation to the affected countries to address and overcome the aftermaths of Hurricane Beryl.
The Development Bank- CAF’s Executive President, Sergio Diaz-Granados, convey his and the Institution’s solidarity with the people of the affected nations through letters addressed to the Prime Ministers of the affected countries, namely Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines. He further announced that the funds of the donation will be immediately delivered intended to aid the civilians affected and also to provide emergency assistance to the communities affected.
The financial institution announced to make a total donation of US $800,000 to the five mentioned countries. The distribution of the fund will be done as follows-
- US $250,000 for Jamaica.
- US $250,000 for Barbados, both Jamaica and Barbados being existing shareholder countries of CAF.
- US $100,000 for Grenada, which is in between the process of becoming a shareholder of CAF.
- US $100,000 for Saint Lucia.
- US $100,000 for St Vincent and the Grenadines.
This contribution is to appreciate the support offered during this time of atrocity, by other financial organizations focused on assisting the affected region.
Diaz-Granados’s statement on this was that he along with his institution, express their deepest solidarity with the people of Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines. They also appreciate the swift actions taken by the governments of the affected region that were necessary to support and assist the communities that felt the wrath of hurricane Beryl.
President Díaz-Granados also appreciated the resilience shown by the citizens while facing the adversity. He said that the institution believes that CAF can help and assist to bolster the efforts to recover from the situation made by the government and their respective populations, by working together.
CAF also said that it is significant to elevate the global awareness about climate change and relevant vulnerability in the Caribbean and decisive action be taken to overcome the effects as well as to emphasis on policies and investments to ensure risk management.
The financial institution will continue to work aligned to international partners to accumulate data and thus produce specialized innovation based on the knowledge and to offer finance related solutions to strengthen resilience in the Caribbean.
