The Dominican Republic has not revived its contracted doses of vaccine from AstraZeneca .The cost of the contracted doses is RD $40 million. These doses were supposed to reach the country till now, but no shipment of these contracted doses have arrived. This means that the pharmaceutical company has been in breach of the contract for three uninterrupted months.
The vaccine, AZD1222, costs about $ 4 per dose. The Government contracted a total of ten million vaccines, for which it disbursed 40 million dollars.
According to the schedule of the shipments in contract till March 21, 4,00,000 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine should have delivered.8,00,000 doses of vaccine were also scheduled to reach the island on May 21, a month after the 1st shipment.
The legal consultant of the Executive Branch of British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca Antoliano Peralta also admitted the reality of “delays” in the process when he was questioned about it.
The official assured that the company would send a batch “in the next few days of the vaccines pending with the Dominican Republic” and that the delivery was still within the term established in the contract.
Last April, the country received a shipment containing 91,200 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine; however, the delivery occurred through the Covax mechanism.
A month later, on May 14, 187,000 additional vaccines donated by the same program arrived. Still without a sign of those who agreed with the pharmaceutical.
