Antigua and Barbuda: Sir Richie Richardson appointed as Commissioner of Sports

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has announced Sir Richie Richardson as the Commissioner of Sports with a vision to elevate the sports sector of the country to greater heights.

The authorities of the country noted that the election of Sir Richie Richardson as the Commissioner will play a huge role in enhancing the sports infrastructure of the country and development of sports sector in Antigua and Barbuda.

While shedding light on Sir Richie’s role as a commissioner, the authorities noted that he is currently committed to his duties with the International Cricket Council. Therefore, he did not accept the Ministerial position within the Ministry of Sports.

But it is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of Sir Richie’s towards development of sports sector in Antigua and Barbuda that he agrees to contribute his leadership and expertise as the Commissioner of Sports.

The authorities of the country stated that Sir Richie’s will work closely in association with the Ministry of Sports and will share his expertise, knowledge and guidance with the communities. They noted that his international standing will definitely play a huge role in guiding the strategic direction of sports in Antigua and Barbuda.

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda added that his mentorship will also be very valuable in nurturing the talent of the country and enhance their performance, positioning the sports sector of the country in a global platform.

Assigned as a Commissioner of Sports, Sir Richie Richardson will be the all in all with assigned duties of assisting coaches, recruiting coaches, prepare operations budgets for the sport, fundraising help, establishing schedule, review plans and many other.

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda extended gratitude to Sir Richie Richardson for his immense contribution towards the development of sports sector of the country. They added that his selection as a commissioner of sports marks the brighter and prosperous future for all the sports department of the country.

Also, the Commissioner of Sports has promised to bring a new chapter in terms of developments and introduction of certain factors in the sports sector where every aspiring sportsperson gets the opportunity to showcase their talent, abilities, skills and techniques with a vision to take Antigua and Barbuda’s sport to a whole new level, a platform with global recognition.

Sir Richard Benjamin Richardson is a former West Indies international cricketer and a former captain of the West Indian cricket team. He was a flamboyant batsman and a superb player of fast bowling.

With the achievements that he has accomplished in his cricketing career, he aims to add on those and deliver outstanding results to the sports sector of the country.
