Antigua and Barbuda PM Gaston Browne holds audience with King Charles III

Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne met and held an audience with King Charles III on September 18, 2022 (Sunday). PM Browne is in the United Kingdom to attend the funeral of the longest monarch of Britain, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen was buried on September 19 after a service at Westminster Abbey.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Browne expressed deep condolences on the passing of his mother and stated, “Your mother and Queen was a shining example to us as leaders as she represented a true commitment to service and love of country. The United Kingdom and the world will miss her dearly.”

Furthermore, the world leaders also discussed about global issues such as Climate change. Prime Minister and King Charles also interacted about his previous work worldwide through The Prince’s Trust.

Besides this, the Head of State and King assured each other that both the countries would continue to work together on the above-mentioned and other issues in the upcoming years.

Queen Elizabeth II was 96-year-old when she died at Bamoral, after reigning for around 70 years. She passed peacefully on September 8, 2022, at her Scottish estate, where she used to spend a maximum of summer seasons. The world witnessed an enormous social change after the Queen came to the throne in 1952.

Many Commonwealth nations across the globe declared a public holiday and National Day of Mourning. Antigua and Barbuda also declared a National Day of Mourning on Monday, September 19, 2022. On Monday at 11 am at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Governor General’s Deputy, Sir Clare Roberts and Acting Prime Minister, the Steadroy Benjamin, will participate in a Thanksgiving Service for the Life as well as Service of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Thanksgiving Service will be followed by a parade through the streets of St John’s by members of the country’s security forces.
