St Lucia: Opposition Saint Lucia Party (SLP) calls for a change of government because of the alarming COVID-19 crisis.
To embark on, COVID-19 management is the primary goal of every country. And if a nation fails to manage this global Pandemic, then oppositions are putting an appeal for government change.
According to Saint Lucia Labour Party, the alarming COVID-19 crisis requires new leadership due to the rapidly deteriorating national health crisis caused by the government’s disastrous management of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Further, SLP declared some significant steps to initiate restriction over the expansion of lethal coronavirus. Additionally, the SLP calls upon the government to immediately take the following steps to address its gross failure.
Closing of Schools
Close all schools for one month to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 Virus and consult with all relevant interests in the education system to plan and agree on how forward for and after the resumption of teaching in the schools. Earlier this month, the UWP government reopened the schools even though cases were spiking. The government must consider all necessary arrangements for online learning, including the reinstatement of the laptop program.
Access to testing
Increase the capacity for the testing of COVID-19 across the country by engaging the services of private labs with the ability to assist with the control and management of the Virus. The government has failed to provide the necessary support to our hospital and health infrastructure, and now the health system is buckling under the weight of all the new COVID-19 patients.
Opening of borders is right or wrong
Rethink the policy on opening the country’s borders to visitors from countries where the COVID-19 Pandemic is at its worst and implement the second test requirement.
The government must not conceal the truth and provide full disclosure about the state of affairs concerning the COVID-19 Virus. This is dangerous as it is not in the interest of our people and our country.
