A 61-year-old man arrested for allegedly set home to fire in Mafeking Village
A 61-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly set fire to a Mayaro home with Molotov cocktail while eight people were sleeping in Mafeking Village.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A 61-year-old man allegedly set fire to a Mayaro home while eight people were sleeping on Monday. The accused is now in police custody.
Reportedly, around 2:30 am, the family was awoken by loud crackling noises when they were asleep at their home along Mafeking Road in Mafeking Village.
They, then raised an alarm when they witnessed a smoke and realised that the structure was on fire.
During the noisy disturbance, one of the relatives looked out of a window and discovered that the suspect holding a Molotov cocktail in his hands which appeared to be a makeshift.
Notably, a 61-year-old threw an object into the room and a 34-year-old woman was set on fire, however, fortunately she quickly outed the blaze and saved herself from the situation.
Luckily, the occupants of the home managed to escaped the burning structure. It is to be noted that the suspect himself trapped near the burning building where one of the adults saw him and ran to his aid and pulled him to safety.
During the unpleasant situation, the suspect spotted screaming repeatedly that he was going to kill everyone in the house.
After the incident, all the eight occupants including a 71-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman, a 34-year-old woman and a 29-year-old woman along with the three children ages nine, six and seven months were taken to the Mayaro health facility for treatment.
In a meanwhile, the 34-year-old woman was transferred to Mt Hope for additional treatment who has been burnt by the cocktail.
The officers of the Mayaro CID under the supervision of Sgt Mohammed conducting a further inquiry.
However, this is not the first case that occurred in this week as on Monday itself, a man was beaten and set on fire during a confrontation with his cousin in Gran Couva.
The victim was identified as 40-year-old Anil Kowlessar of Bosierre Trace. Notably, Kowlessar was at his home when he was beaten by his cousin due to some argument.
A cousin then threw the contents of the canister on victim and set him on fire. The 40-year-old was then taken to the Couva health facility by the responding officers.
