Dominica confirms 92 new cases of COVID-19

Roseau: The Commonwealth of Dominica recorded a total of 92 new COVID-19 cases on December 28, 2021. The active toll of the novel coronavirus on the island rises to 225, the report of the Ministry of Health and Wellness notes. 

Out of these new cases reported, ninety-one individuals tested positive with Rapid Antigen Testing, while the remaining one got positive by RT-PCR COVID-19 testing. 

The Health ministrys’ report further highlights, in total, 229 COVID patients got discharged from the hospital facility on December 28, 2021. 

Six thousand four hundred forty-eight – 6448 individuals have recovered from the deadly viral disease since it started in Dominica. 

Since the COVID-19 outbreak emerged in the island country, it reported a total of 6720 cases of the COVID-19 mutant. As per the health ministry data, forty-seven persons have lost their lives to COVID.

• Total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in Dominica – 124241
• Number of individuals tested with Rapid Antigen tests – 92484
• Number of individuals tested by RT-PCR – 31414 

COVID-19 vaccination in Dominica – 

• People who are partially vaccinated by receiving one dose of COVID-19 vaccines – 30587 
• Fully vaccinated persons by taking the required number of the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines – 28295

Decrease of COVID-19 cases in Domnica – 

The island witnessed a decline in the daily coronavirus cases. Even in the past few weeks, no death has been recorded by the health authorities. This is a positive sign for the island, assisting it in getting back on track and reviving the economy. 

Dominica succeeded in achieving the vaccination coverage target set by World Health Organisation, WHO, while several other Caribbean nations failed to accomplish it.  

However, there is vaccine hesitancy among the general public in some regions, pulling them back to get their jabs of the vaccine.
