Kevin Batson, accuse of armed robberies arrested at East Bank Demerara

Kevin Batson, also known as ‘Kero’, of 29-year-old, was arrested by the police on Friday for the offence of dual Robberies Under Arms in East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Georgetown, Guyana: Kevin Batson, also known as ‘Kero’, of 29-year-old, was arrested by the police on Friday for the offence of dual Robberies Under Arms in East Bank Demerara (EBD).

It is to be noted that Kevin Batson, is identified as an unemployed resident of School Street Diamond, EBD, and he was charged with the attempted Robbery committed on Joshua Singh on January 4, 2024, at the Diamond Public Road, EBD.

As per reports, Batson is accused of robbing Singh of a quantity of items worth $215,000 (Guyana Currency).

Further to this, he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond Golden Grove Magistrate court, where the charge was read to him.

Notably, Kevin Batson’s bail was not approved as he pleaded not guilty and noting this, he was taken into custody and remanded to prison. Moreover, the matter was postponed to February 2, 2024.

According to the sources, a 29-year-old was also charged for the offence of Robbery Under arms on the same day, which was committed on Rajesh Ramlakhan at the Grove Housing Scheme at EBD on January 7, 2024.

For this offence, Kevin Batson appeared at the same court, i.e., Diamond Magistrate’s Court, before the Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce, where the charge was read to him.

It is to be noted that he pleaded not guilty to the charge, and bail was refused. Batson was remanded to the prison.

Additionally, the news has been shared on various social media pages, and many people have expressed their frustration and opinions regarding the matter.

One such comment by a person named Raj Singh wrote, “He is right where he belongs to jail.”

Another user by the name of Glynis Gibson commented, “Glad to read that he is put up (thief) until further notice… keep dat in jail.”

While reacting to the post, a FB user named Jean Sukhram remarked, “Faster money takes you where you have to go.”

However, this is not the first time that the country has witnessed such stances of crime. There is a need to implement strict rules so the accused will not be left free on the roads. This can impact common people as well as the nation at large.
