Trelawny, Jamaica: A man arrested for the offence of allegedly raping a girl at gunpoint. The accused is reported to appear at court on Friday, 12th April in order to answer the questions of the magistrate for the offence he committed.
The accused has been identified as Damion Mais, resident of Water Lane, Falmouth in the parish and the identity of the girl has not been revealed yet by the officers.
As per the details shared by the authorities, Mais flaunted a firearm while approaching the woman and forced her into a secluded area, where he sexually assaulted the woman. This incident is reported to take place on 18th March 2024.
The investigating officers were later informed about the incident and they started their investigation which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect on 1st April, and was subsequently taken into custody by the authorities of Falmouth.
As per the reports, his hearing has been scheduled, and he has to appear before the magistrate at Trelawny Parish Court, where he will be answerable to the charge of rape.
Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views and opinions on the incident. The residents of the community expressed their concern over the safety of the citizens by shedding light on the increasing crime activity in the country.
One person commented “Such a shameful act, such culprits should get the harshest punishment so that they can never repeat with someone else. I guess these rapers don’t have sisters and mothers that’s why they don’t know how to respect someone’s daughter and protect them in this cruel world.
Another person commented the following “It feels so dangerous to roam freely in the nation, it is just for the women but for the men as well, every kind of crime is increasing so rapidly that authorities need to take strict and quick actions against it.”
The residents of Jamaica have also asked the authorities to investigate both sides thoroughly before reaching any decision. Along with that, they have urged the administration to implement strict laws ensuring the safety of the citizens.
