Illegal electrical connection devastates two buildings in Guyana

Georgetown, Guyana: An illegal electrical connection resulted in the destruction of the shack of the two buildings in the East Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown. Following the blaze, the nearby resident immediately called the fire service, who put out a spreading fire.

Responding to the call were Water Tender #95, Water Carrier #18, and Water tender #118, carrying a total of 6434 liters of water, along with 13 firefighters who reached the spot in order to control the blaze.

As per the details, the fire engulfed a one-flat wooden building which is owned by 39-year-old Brandon Britton. The destructive fire flames completely destroyed the building and its contents, which made the owner homeless. Not only this, but the fire also affected a neighbouring one flat wooden building whose proprietor was 39-year-old Ruby Francis.

As per the reports, she was living there with her family of eight, whose external wall of the building was destroyed due to the radiated heat.

Moreover, the purported cause of the fire was identified as a slack connection of illegal wiring, which led to the arcing and sparking, subsequently igniting nearby combustible materials. Also, the firefighting efforts included one jet that was working from WT#118’s tank supply, one jet from WC#18’s tank supply, and one jet from WT#95’s tank supply.

Along with that, the light Pumps #A07 and #A16 who all contributed by utilizing an open water source to extinguish the fire. Following the incident, the Guyana Fire Service continues to warn citizens to stop utilizing illegal connections for electricity in order to prevent themselves from any dangerous activities for the safety and well-being of the citizens nearby.

They also stated that these illegal connections create a serious risk to both life and property since they could cause fires or electrocutions. Along with that, they also gave some preventive tips and asked the citizens to install smoke alarms in their homes so that they could alert the citizens and help them escape from the fire.
