Avinash Kuttai was arrested on 18th April 2024 for the offence of ‘Possession of Narcotics.’ Subsequently, he was taken to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court 2 and was presented before her Worship, Ms. Abigail Gibbs where the charges were read against him and was pleaded guilty.

Meanwhile, Gildarie Persaud was charged with Possession of Narcotics contrary to section 4 (1) (a) (i) of the Narcotics Drug Psychotropic Substance Control Act Chapter 10:10. He also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 7 days of community service.

Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views and opinions on the incident. They raised their questions over the punishment given to both the suspects and expressed concern over increasing crime activity occurring in the nation.

One person with a Facebook handle George Perry commented “Her Worship took his appearance at 37 years old, that’s why he was given community service, other drug users should take note, and make sure when they are caught to look just like him.”

Another person commented the following “Why these people are not looking at other serious crime offences which are increasing so rapidly? The authorities need to take action, they need to do something in order to control these criminal activities.”

The administration has ensured that they are implementing stringent plans and policies with the motive to tackle the increasing crime rate in the country, ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of the nation. They have also stated that they will continue to conduct such operations which will play a pivotal role in curbing crime activities.
