Guyana rooted David Lammy named Foreign Secretary of UK, vows to assist Beryl affected nations
Guyana’s son David Lammy has been appointed as the British Foreign Secretary in UK in the newly elected British Labour Party Government.

Guyana’s son David Lammy has been appointed as the British Foreign Secretary in UK in the newly elected British Labour Party Government. Following his election, the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali congratulated the son of his soil and extended best wishes to him for future.
While expressing happiness on the election of David Lammy, President Ali took to his social media account and shared his picture with the newly appointed Foreign Minister.
“Congratulations to David Lammy, an outstanding son of the soil, on his appointment as the Foreign Secretary of theUK. On behalf of all citizens of Guyana, I extend our best wishes and share with you our sense of pride in your success,” noted President Irfaan Ali.
The President shared that he had the pleasure of speaking with the UK’s new Foreign Secretary. He congratulated him and his government and assured him of strong friendship and partnership with Guyana. He further added that he updated David about the impact of Hurricane Beryl on the region and asked for the support and collaboration from the international community.
President Ali further remarked that David assured him of the continued support of the United Kingdom, ensuring the sovereignty and integrity. He stated that they also discuss their bilateral relations, investments and the UKEF support for the development of Guyana.
He also marked that his appointment as a British Foreign Secretary is a testament to his hard work and commitment towards making a positive impact on society. Following his election, David Lammy extended gratitude to God and stated that it is his honour to be appointed Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.
He stated that the world is facing severe challenges but will navigate them with the UK’s enormous strengths. While shedding light on it, he talked about the devastating effects of Hurricane Beryl faced by the Caribbean region. He noted that the devastation is appalling and his thoughts are with those mourning loved ones and all those having to rebuild their lives.
He stated that UK is helping their friends in the Caribbean as they deal with the devastating effects of the Beryl by releasing funds to help the region recover from this difficult situation. He further noted that he has been speaking with the Cayman Premier and Governor in order to outline commitment to the overseas territories.
