Guyana: Father and son arrested for possessing 11.204 kgs of cocaine
A father and son duo was arrested by the authorities of Guyana for the offence of possessing 11.204 kilograms of cocaine on Wednesday, 20th March 2024. The apprehension of the suspect was done under an exercise conducted by the officials.

Georgetown, Guyana: A father and son duo was arrested by the authorities of Guyana for the offence of possessing 11.204 kilograms of cocaine on Wednesday, 20th March 2024. The apprehension of the suspect was done under an exercise conducted by the officials.
The father and son have been identified as 55-year-old resident Adrian Carew, resident of Rainbow City Wismar Linden and 27-year-old Cavel Carew, resident of Central Amelia’s Ward Linden.
As per the details shared by the authorities, the officials from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit held an exercise in the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara. During their operation, they stopped a canter vehicle.
Subsequently, the officers searched the vehicle and found several brick-like parcels, which were suspected to be cocaine, which was concealed in a box.
With the discovery of cocaine from both Adrian Carew and Cavel Carew, the authorities arrested both suspects. They took them to the Headquarters of Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit along with the suspected narcotic found from him.
Where the authorities conducted a test on the seized items, in result the items were tested positive for cocaine and weighed 11.204 kgs of cocaine. The authorities are probing the matter in detail and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
Several residents of the community took to their official social media accounts and expressed their views on the apprehension of the duo.
One person commented, “Must be their family business to consume and smuggle narcotics, this is utterly bullshitting how people are making consumption of such harmful substances, it is just truly disturbing.”
Another person commented the following “The authorities need to do something; this has become every day’s story of how people are getting arrested for the offence of possessing drugs.”
The residents of the community have asked the administration to take stringent measures, as someone or another is arrested every day for possessing and trafficking narcotics. The administration has also stated that they are making efforts to make Guyana a drug-free nation.
